시골 출신으로 서른이 넘어 권투를 시작한 Maggie Fitzgerald(Hilary Swank)는 꾸준한 노력으로 드디어 Frankie Dunn(Clint Eastwood)의 눈에 들어 시합에 나가게 되고 연승을 거두고 잘 나가다가 시합때 잘못돼서 머리를 다쳐 전신마비가 된다.
그리고 병상에서 자살하려고 한다. Frankie가 약물로 숨을 끊어준다. 끝.
